One Lioness was asked to refresh a pet-sitting brand with a poster, business cards, and a new look and feel.
The business wanted to convey trustworthiness, warmth, care, fun and happiness through their promotional materials. This was achieved with a bright and cheerful colour palette, rounded shapes, a serif font, and fluid illustrations.
Enthusiastic and bold colours were chosen to convey the uplifting mood of the brand.
Then the design work could begin . . .
The first iteration of the poster, due to its emphasis on the darker colours in the palette, had a more sombre mood than required.
Client details have been anonymised.
The text 'References available' (removed from the final poster) was originally positioned in the bottom-left corner, with the text aligned to create a harmonious circle in line with the cat's tail and body posture.
A design showing the invisible circle created by the capital 'C' of 'Cats' mimicking the circle created by the dog's profile. The circle is a very pleasing and safe shape which is why it was used as a design motif in the early stages of the project.
The cat's feet neatly aligned with the logo, giving the effect that he (or she) was walking across the letters.
A visual demonstration of the flow and set of shapes and lines in the logo design, showing the sinuous 's'-shape created by the tail and leg of the animal, and how the eye is guided by the straight foreleg to the capital 'C'.
This dog initially occupied the bottom-right corner and interwove with the flowing white-and-green background.
The main dog illustration was only tweaked slightly for the final design. Outlined silhouettes, as opposed to full silhouettes, enabled the eyes and other features of the animals to be clearly visible.
The second iteration of the poster used the colour palette in a more eye-catching, almost pop-art-style way. The greater use of white in the design adds a clean and contemporary feel. Bunting gives a celebratory touch.
The front of the business card (dog version) using a crisp and clean white background with only two colours.
The back of the business card was more surprising in design, keeping with the stylistic pop-art theme.
The poster, without additional text.
A Siamese Cat, a favourite breed of the client, was requested as an illustration.
A large dog looks around his surroundings.
Ultimately two different versions of the business card were produced, one dog-themed and another cat-themed.

"At the outset I had no clear idea of what I wanted. Bonnie asked questions and listened carefully to what I had to say. As a result she gleaned what I was looking for even before I became aware of it myself. She skilfully guided me and came up with some awesome ideas.
It was an amazing experience and a complete joy watching the design and art work take shape and come to life.
Nothing was too much trouble and she certainly went those extra few miles to ensure that I was completely happy with the concept, design, art work shape and colour.
The end result far surpassed anything that I thought was achievable.
Working to a tight deadline Bonnie pulled out all the stops.
From concept to completion working with Bonnie has been rewarding and the most amazing fun!"
